Historical town-planning complex
Nursultan Nazarbayev Avenue (former Bolshaya Mikhailovskaya Street) is the main thoroughfare of the city of Uralsk. Along it, he grew and formed. In the 17th century, the city was built up from the Yaika River to the modern Pugachevskaya Square, at a distance of about one kilometer. During the 18th century, its border was moved twice: to the modern Nekrasov street, then - Communist. At the beginning of the 19th century, the city rampart was moved to the modern square. After a big fire, during which a significant part of the wooden buildings burned out, in 1821 the position of an architect was first established in Uralsk and an Italian architect, Delmedino, was invited from St. Petersburg. According to his project, a part of the avenue from Pugachevskaya to Abai Square began to be built up. He built the ataman's palace - now the polyclinic of the Internal Affairs Directorate is located here. There is a memorial plaque on the building in memory of A.S. Pushkin, V.A. Zhukovsky, V.I. Dahl, L.N. Tolstoy, M. Sholokhov. In this part of the city, for about a kilometer, the avenue was also built up mainly with two-story brick houses, connected by gate arches characteristic of that time.
