The US Embassy in Kazakhstan and the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Atameken" announce the launch of a joint project "Born Nomad" to support women's entrepreneurship, promote traditional crafts in foreign markets and preserve cultural heritage through the development of the creative industry.
The nationwide competition "Born Nomad - Power Award" aims to revive and popularize the Kazakh heritage and inspire a modern interpretation of traditional crafts and folk art of Kazakhstan.
The sponsors of the project are Chevron and ExxonMobil, partners of the competition are KazTrade, KazPost, the Creative Industries Project Office, the Kazakhstan Creative Council, the Association of Business Women of Kazakhstan, the Alliance of Women's Forces of Kazakhstan, the Council of Business Women "Atameken" and the Almaty College of Arts and Crafts.
Equalizing opportunities and strengthening the economic role of women is a US foreign policy priority. “We know that where women thrive, countries thrive,” said Ambassador William Moser.
The project seeks to create commercial synergies between the United States and Kazakhstan by creating an ecosystem in which empowered artisans can interact and collaborate with craft experts, online retailers, and stakeholders from the creative industries.
The Born Nomad project consists of three components: an online platform to provide international exposure, educational opportunities, and links to US online stores; a nationwide talent competition; as well as a forum and festival to showcase the best creations, announce the winners of the competition and organize a group to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the creative economy.
Participants will compete in the following categories: tradition and culture, innovation, female craftsmen, young talents, 3D crafts and creative collaboration. A selection committee consisting of experts and representatives of professional circles from the USA and Kazakhstan will determine the winners in each category.
“We have a unique opportunity to take craft entrepreneurship to a new level. This is especially important for women's business, and we are ready to provide all kinds of support within the framework of the Bastau project, thanks to which over the past 4 years more than 150 thousand people (52% of them are women) have studied the basics of micro and small business and more than 2,000 craft projects have been implemented. ", - said the Chairman of the Board of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan" Atameken "Ablai Myrzakhmetov.
The completion of the project in September will be a large-scale forum and festival. The event will feature speakers from international organizations, American artisan associations and craft experts.
