West Kazakhstan Regional Kazakh Drama Theater named after Khadisha Bukeeva

The West Kazakhstan Regional Kazakh Drama Theater began its work on December 16, 1993 with the tragedy of Mukhtar Auezov «Karaguz».

The repertoire basis of the theater was laid by the authors of the first performances, directors Zhambylbek Esenbekov and Elken Zhylkyshinov, who came from Arkalyk. The first director and artist Amantai Sultangaliev and People's Artist of Kazakhstan Gulnar Zhakupova were invited from Atyrau. Graduates of the most prestigious theater school named after Shchepkin in Moscow, Kayipbergen and Shaharbanu Esenkulovs from Zhezkazgan, willingly responded to the invitation to work in the new theater.

The founders of the Kazakh drama theater are also Murat Akhmanov and Khazima Nugmanova, who previously worked as actors in Taldykorgan. In Uralsk, M. Akhmanov took place as a director. Six months after his arrival, he became the chief director. The repertoire of the theater still includes many performances staged by it. Among them are such large-scale performances as «Makhambet», «Ormangazy», «Ant», «Syrym Batyr», «Korkyt». Each season the Kazakh Drama Theater opens with the play «Makhambet». Director Murat Akhmanov is now famous in the republic, he has his own unique style, and this is recognizable.

At one time, young and promising Boranbai Moldabaev, Zhankeldy Tlekkabylov, Ainur Tlebaldieva (Zhuginisova) came to Uralsk from Almaty. In those formative years, Myktybai Zhylybaev from Kyzylorda, Temirbolat Esengaliev from Shymkent and Sailau Sembaev, Satkali Auelbaev from Atyrau worked in the theater. There were talents in their native land. They were Telman Imashev, Gulbarshyn Abisheva, Musagali Bektenov, Bibigul Isalieva, Baktygul Zhakypova. They were the first to become the first theater actors. Then a large group of the first graduates of the local university, who graduated from the acting and directing department, students of Murat Akhmanov and Gulnar Zhakypova, joined the theater team.

In 2018, the theater celebrated its 25th anniversary. Today it is an established and venerable theatrical collective, with successful performances at republican and international festivals. The theater staff twice became a laureate of the republican competition of theaters, in 2005 it participated in the 17th Cairo International Festival of Experimental Theaters and in other prestigious festivals of theaters from different countries.

A children's theater operates on the basis of the theater.

In 2002, the theater received a new building, on September 11 of the same year, the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the opening ceremony.

The Uralsk Theater was the first to be built in independent Kazakhstan. The building design combines national motives and modern architectural trends. The main auditorium of the Kazakh Drama Theater is designed for 280 spectators. The theater has two rehearsal rooms, a hall for social events, a hall for guests of honor, a decoration workshop, a modern tone studio, and many ancillary facilities.

The amount of investments in the construction of the Kazakh drama theater amounted to about US $ 10 million.
